Lisa went on holiday.

In 5 days she made 80 sandcastles.

Each day she made 4 fewer castles than the day

Before.

How many castles did she make each day?

    day1=x
    day2=x-4
    day3=x-4-4=x-8
    day4=x-8-4=x-12
    day5=x-12-4=x-16


    So,
    x+x-4+x-8+x-12+x-16=80

    5x-40=80
    5x =80+40
    5x =120
    x=24

    So
    day1=24
    day2=24-4=20
    day3=20-4=16
    day4=16-4=12
    day5=12-4=8


    altogether she made 84 castles because on day6, she made 4=84 and on day7 she made 0 so altogether she made 84 castles.

    Lisa built
    day 1 24 sandcastles
    day 2 20 sandcastles
    day 3 16 sandcastles
    day 4 12 sandcastles
    day 5 8 sandcastles

    I worked this out by dividing 80 by 5 to tell me how many sandcastles Lisa would build each day which is 16. I then worked out how many sandcastles she would build if she built 16 on the first day and 4 less each day. The answer is 40. I then added four castles each day until I reached 80.

    Lisa made 80 castle.
    Each day made 4 fewer castle than the day before, so in 5 day she made the following

    Day 1~ 24
    Day 2– 24 - 4 = 20
    Day 3– 20 - 4 = 16
    Day 4– 16 - 4 = 12
    Day 5– 12 - 4 = 08
    Total = 80

    Then she made 4 fewer castle, so:

    Day 6– 8 - 4 = 4
    Day 7– 4 - 4 = 0
    Altogether = 84

    She made 84 sandcastle altogether.

    If we divide 80 sand castles between 5 days (assuming Lisa did same number of castles every day), I got 16 as the answer.

    So, if on the middle day, day 3, she made 16 sandcastles, I counted up to day one and down to day 5 and added them all. I carried on counting down to day 6, when she made 4 and day 7 when she made nil sandcastles.

    Day 1=24
    Day 2=20
    Day 3=16
    Day 4=12
    Day 5=8

    Day 6=4
    Day 7=0

    I counted and added all the sandcastles she made altogether as 84.

    Call x the number of castles she built on Friday.

    On Thursday, she built x+4
    On Wednesday, she built x+8
    On Tuesday, she built x+12
    On Monday, she built x+16

    4+8+12+16=40

    40:5=8 Per day

    Monday 8+16=24
    Tuesday 8+12=20
    Wednesday 8+8=16
    Thursday 8+4=12
    Friday 8

    24+20+16+12+8=80 altogether
