Well, what a week we have had!
Our science week started with MAD Scientist dress up and a selection of crazy experiments.
We looked at corn flour and water mixed together, milk and food colouring, balancing coins on a lemon, upside water and bicarbonate soda and vinegar.
We has a great time and found out about chemical reactions, water density and lots more.
In the afternoon, we were looking a solids and liquids. What is a solid? What is a liquid? All year 4 classes have to sort and think about the properties of the object/product and whether it is solid or liquid. The children worked fantastically hard during this activity and learnt some brilliant vocabulary.

This was a really fun day because of all our experiments and my favorite experiment was magic milk because the milk just disapeared. I think we could have improved by changing the colour of the of the the volcano experiment.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite experiment during science week was finding out what material absorbs the best out of cotton wool, blue tissue, toilet paper and kitchen roll. My prediction was that kitchen roll would absorb the best, but it proved me wrong because cotton wool absorbed 200ml and terrible toilet paper absorbed 30ml.

I liked the first experiment, wich was upside down water.
ReplyDeleteI liked it because it looked hard but it was actually quite easy and I also liked it because it felt like you had to stay as still as possible in case it would fall and SPLASH everywhere!!!
I think you can make it better, by making it more inetresting, for instance, by mixing something with the water and see what happens when you turn it over!!!

DeleteMy favourite experiment was the volcano experiment because it was fantastic looking at it exploding, it could of been better if the volcano could change colour as it explodes. I would like to say thanks to Miss Hutton and Mrs Jackson for giving us a great week.

My favourite experiment was the cup and card one. I liked this one because of the way the card stuck to the cup without letting any water out. It was also really funny to see some people make the water fall out. Next time, I would like to use a bigger cup, and a bigger card and see if it still works. Thank you Miss Hutton and Mrs Jackson for organising the week.

I enjoyed science week because there was a whole load of experiments to do like making a volcano, magic milk, floating lemons, corn flour and water and lots more. We had paramedics come into school as well and they showed us all sorts of paramedic equipment like collars, bandages and cloth dunked into a gel which heals sun burns .Thanks to Mrs Jackson because she was the one that planned this fantastic week.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite experiment was the upside down water one because it was very fun and interesting.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the corn flour goo experiment. I learnt if I put my finger and swirl it around it reacts like a liquid but if I punch it with a lot of preasure it reacts like a solid. Technically the goo is a SUSPENSION, meaning that the grains of starch are not dissolved in the water, they are just suspended and spread out in the water. It was really fun to put some corn flour goo in your hand it will sink through your hands. It is bad to drop corn flour goo in your drain because all the other particles use preasure to stop it from going down so the goo will turn into a solid and block the drains. Thank you Miss Hutton and Mrs Jackson for a fabulous week! I hope you had a good time.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Science Week so muck because we had a whole lot of experience and learning. It was so fascinating. I can remember a lot of experiments and fun things we did like the paramedics, volcano, floating lemons, Lamborghini, and many more. When we did which material absorbs the best I think it was really fantastic, the best part was when we did an advert on the best material which was cotton wool. When we learned the recovery position it was very interesting also did you know paramedics have special equipment like collars, bandages and cloth which is dunked in ice-cold-freezing-gel. All thanks to Miss Jackson who all made this happen with such a great desire and such a great idea and such a great passion.
Science Week seemed to be fun for you guys. The upside down water experiment sounds a bit funny. the Cornflake goo experiment sounds gross. Can't believe that you had to put your clean hands into the goo. Very unlucky. Urrrrrrrrrrrr! Makes me feel sick.
